On 8 April 2020, OECTA announced that its members had ratified the agreement on the main terms of a new treaty. CUPE 1571 said it will hold a ratification vote for its members on November 23, 2019. The YCDSB Board of Directors will present the preliminary agreement for ratification at its Board meeting on November 26, 2019. This means that the central body of each union negotiates with the province AND its local units negotiate with each school authority. Different aspects of a collective agreement are negotiated at each level. We understand that a work disruption can be troubling for students, parents and school communities, and we will ensure that all stakeholders are kept informed throughout the process. The Ontario English Catholic Teachers Association (OECD) signed an interim agreement with the provincial government and the Ontario Catholic School Trust Association (OCSTA) on March 12, 2020. The York Catholic District School Board (YCDSB) is pleased to announce that a new collective agreement has been signed with CUPE 2331. YCDSB staff represented by CUPE 2331 includes office workers, designated early childhood educators (CEDEs), academic assistants (EAs), education workers (EOs), library technicians, lunchtime supervisors, lunch desk support workers, school secretarial staff and student support workers (WSS). After a series of bargaining meetings over the past few months, a provisional collective agreement was signed on January 28, 2020. The YCDSB Board of Directors submitted the preliminary agreement for approval at its Board meeting on January 28, 2020. CUPE 2331 submitted this interim agreement to a ratification vote with its members on February 5, 2020. The provisional agreement has been ratified by both parties. The new collective agreement between the YCDSB and CUPE Local 2331 complements CUPE`s central agreement, which was negotiated under the School Boards Collective Bargaining Act and was already concluded on June 1, 2331. It was ratified in November 2019.
